BAMMMMM !!!! Mission Success ;o)

Got the schematic for the Control Board, was tracing down the 'Power AC OK ' signal which led to the 4-bit binary counter chips U10 and U16. U10 was hotter then I thought it should be and it output didn't seem to match up with the data sheet... DM74LS161N. So I dug an old Apple II+ out of the pile and found some SN74LS161N's and swapped them out... it went into and complete the sector scan so I hooked it back up and... IT BOOTED ;o) The drive was even good, I'm editing someones Christmas letter from 1982 right now. Well gotta go and email all my geeky pals... If you'd like some info on this unit I've collected almost everything I think, email me at obi1990 at hotmail dot com .

Update: The 5vdc output from power supply is OK. I would like to find out though if the WHITE wire from the power supply to the Control Board (the AC OK connector)shows a voltage when everything is connected and powered on, I show a few millivolts, something seems strange there, I'm not sure how this works. I've got the data and schematics for the power supply and analog board but I still haven't found one for the Control Board yet...

I just got the tech specs and schematic for the ProFile's analog board, hopefully will find some answers there, I also just pulled the main transformer T1 so will be comparing and testing later today.

Hi Adrian, not sure if you got my email or not (MUCH more descriptive ;o) ) No, the stepper does not go into 'Sector Check' mode, all that happens is the drive motor spins up. After ~60sec it should start the check but does not. I replaced a number of bad cap's in power supply (still worried it may be the main transformer in the supply). On the controller board both U7 and U8 were burnt out (stepper motor driver), I replaced both these with new matching ULN2074B's. There are two sudo-SMD cap's on the controller board that are questionable, they don't seem to have part numbers, curious. The power supply (disconnected from Controller Board and Hard Disk) gives the following voltages relative to COM:
Purple -16.20 (-12vdc)
White 0v (AC OK)
Blue 14.05 (+12vdc)
Red 1.80 (5vdc)

The five volt wire seems questionable. If you had a working model and could give some supply voltages and some TP voltages from the controller that would be awesome!

Thanks,
obix

Hi Obix,

Does the stepper motor on the side of the Seagate drive try to move?

I appreciate your blog on the A9M0005 very much. I've got a large collection of vintage Mac stuff I'm getting in working order to sell. Currently I've been stuck on this ProFile drive for a LISA 2 that I've finally got working. I'm very interested in conversing with you on this topic if you are still active with it. I've a good electronics/computer background but I don't have schematics or any extra units to test against when it comes to this ProFile. Hope to hear from you.
